Why Do I Write?

Why Do I Write?

(This week’s poem is in reference to last week’s blog. Check it out!)

The teacher says, “Today’s assignment is to write.” WHAT? I hear sighs from some of the students as they roll their eyes in dread. Some reluctantly pick up their pencils and stare at the blank page as if it were a branding iron. Touching pencil to paper can only cause pain, they think. On the other hand, others just start writing. I wonder if they start out with an idea, or if they do like I do sometimes and just start writing whatever is in their heads.

To me, writing can be very gratifying. Did you know that any book you read, even a book that is very good, is much better to the one who wrote it than it will ever be to the one reading it? Think of the best book you have ever read. The author of the book enjoyed it in a way that the person reading it never will or ever could. Why? Because he created it. It is his “child” so to speak. At least a child of his mind. How neat is that?

Your writing is a part of you. Some writing you want to share, and some can be so private that you do not feel comfortable sharing it with anyone. But… when you create a” great literary piece” you know it, and there is nothing quite as fulfilling as sharing it with the world.

Becoming a good writer takes practice just like becoming a great athlete takes practice, and practice can be taxing and sometimes painful. However, the more you write the better you get at communicating your ideas with the pen. Then the game becomes much more enjoyable!

So… Happy Writing!!

Why do I write?

For the whole world to see?

Why do I write?

I do it for me!
